  • We have extended the agreement with Verizon to wrap up the Thinkfinity program. We will continue to provide incentives for trainings until June 30, 2012. This includes trainer and attendee incentives.
  • TIMMS is not available, so please use PDMS to register training or provide written confirmation of your training to Denise.
  • If you know of a school that has not done anything or has not done much with Thinkfinity, please push. Denise will help out when/if possible.

INTEGRATE Update
  • Digital Learning Day Campaign
  • Internet Safety
  • 2012 Technology Plan
    • LEA technology plans for all LEAs are expiring on June 30, 2012. Plans must be updated and submitted to DDOE for approval. These plans are a requirement for those LEAs that are filing for funding for Priority 2 category services through eRate.
    • A technology plan is not required for those districts that are ONLY going to file for Priority 1 or have DTI file for Priority 1 services for them,

Executive Director's Update

  • eLearning DE -
    • registration going well; 200 participants
    • 3 classes may be cancelled due to low registration.
  • Tech Surveys - Waiting for some responses from districts.
  • YouTube -
    • If you want it for adults only, you need to work with Eric Austin at DTI to make this happen. Your district must have the capability of recognizing adult logons in order for DTI to assist you in making this work.
    • We are looking at YouTube for Education. You must be a partner with Google in order for your videos to be put on Google's whitelist so the videos you want may not be on the list. This also brings us back to the fact that Superintendents do not seem to want to have a whitelist for which other districts have selected the videos.
    • DTI is looking to see if YouTube for Education will work in the way they say it will work.
  • Please encourage teachers to participate in Digital Learning Day

Eric Austin

DTI

  • Live @ EDU
    • Pilot in Capital SD went well.
    • Fortunately, the tech director, Ben Wells, had experience with a migration like this so his experience was benficial.
    • 75% of the people are happy; there are some end-users that are having trouble adjusting.
    • DTI has developed protections for the issues they have discovered so that the next few migrations can go even smoother.
    • Next school to migrate is to be determined. DTI is ready when the districts are ready. They would like to have a 2-week window between migrations to allow for each migration to settle.
    • Training (as per Lisa Enright)-
      • rolled out as an "Upgraded" email system instead of a "new" system. Many teachers were excited about the enhanced features. They now have the State Global Address List.
      • Training documents were put on the district website.
      • A video was posted to the district website.
      • Contact Lisa Enright if you would like to use their training materials and edit them for your district use.
      • Lisa cautioned that being very careful with vernacular is important for the lower-level users so that they truly understand what they need to do, what to click, what to boot up, etc.
  • Readdressing
    • The one device per child concept is becoming more popular. In order to realign ourselves to be able to address that framework will require readdressing of all the devices in a district. Eric attended an informational webinar that suggested that networks should allow for up to 3 devices per student, not one, due to the number of devices a student may have.
    • For the most part, readdressing is unobrusive and will not disrupt the school day.
    • We are working on a pilot with Brandywine to see what the network infrastructure will look like for bring your own device.
    • Hoping to complete the process by the end of summer 2012.
Group projects - Do we continue? Where does the group want to go with this?
  • Group felt update to CSGC project was huge and overwhelming. Best practice may have felt the same way
  • Can we narrow the scope?
  • Can we do it in phases?
  • Looked at Arizona and Florida matrix - and we questioned why we should redo the document.
  • Are we okay with using a document that is branded by another state?
  • Too granular doesn't work. For example, let's use grade level clusters instead of grades.
  • Judith provided training using the Florida matrix. Much of the content addresses the same topics that the LoTi matrix does and would allow connections with LoTi. It was well-received and teachers were engaged. There was a video in every block and even if the videos were for a different grade level, the teachers were receptive to the content and could identify with the points being made.
  • Agreements:
    • Need a replacement for CSGC
    • Need some type of paper to use in training that sends them to a website (at a glance)
    • Like Arizona/Florida matrices but would prefer to send them to something that is branded Delaware.
    • "Probably" should not be built around the LoTi framework.
Project Work

Resources evaluated for replacement of CSGC:

Levels of Tech Integration: Gladhart (2001) developed a Levels of Adoption model by adapting the Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT) study by Dwyer, Ringstaff, and Sandholtz (1992). Gladhart’s model addressed the issues of teacher behavior, student behavior, and technology tools regarding computer integration. The teacher behavior part of the model lists the following five levels of computer technology integration: entry, adoption, adaptation, appropriation, and invention.

Classroom Environment: The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, constructive, goal directed (i.e., reflective), authentic, and collaborative (Jonassen, Howland, Moore, & Marra, 2003).The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, constructive, goal directed (i.e., reflective), authentic, and collaborative (Jonassen, Howland, Moore, & Marra, 2003).

Thoughts on Best Practices:

Start with document and work backwards towards the webpage. The document is manageable. Then, we can build and work towards a web page which would have more comprehensive information.
