INTEGRATE Update
|
- iSAFE
- Explore the curriculum - afternoon of the November meeting - 11/10/11
- Training Date Change: 12/15/11
- DTI Internet Safety Presentations
- DTI will be offering free assembly presentatations to 4th grade classrooms. Information is below and registration information will be sent to the listserv. Please note that Verizon employees will be assisting DTI with the presentations.
- INTEGRATE members previewed the Trevor video from iSafe. A discussion followed and most felt that the content (intended for 7-12 grade) was too intense for 4th graders. This discussion ensued when Elayne Starkey from DTI joined us (see notes below).
- A resolution was drafted and shared with DTI after the meeting. Basically, the Trevor video will not be shown to 4th grader as part of the DTI content. If a school saw the video last year and wants the video to be shown, the appropriate INTEGRATE member will be notified and they can resolve this with the specific school.
- SMART Conference
- The SMART conference will be held on 10/22/11 in Greenwood at the Woodbridge Elementary School. Please forward information to teachers; this is the last week to register.
- LoTi
- Wendy asked if and how LoTi data is being shared with schools.
- NCCVT (MaryAn) - shared data with tech ed teachers and expained increasing the HEAT of a lesson.
- Red Clay (Judith) - using data for grant evaluation; will be meeting with teachers to share how to increase the HEAT.
- Cape Henlopen (Lori) - meeting with tech leaders in each building;
- Appoquinimink (Karen) - share with admin council, building meetings with principals; creates binder with school data that is given to the principals. Appo also uses the data to enhance the purchase of technology when funds are available.
- INTEGRATE projects - we will be revisiting these projects. During the meeting, Wendy brought up the Arizona Technology Matrix as a possible model for the Computer Skills Growth Chart. The group had a discussion about this model and many liked it as a replacement since it offered a research-based model on one of its matrices, aligned to the NETS, and offered specific classroom examples of technology integration for grade bands. The group will consider this model when we revisit this project.

Executive Director Update |
- IMS/PDMS/BlackBoard - During the past week PHRST changed some of the way they entered the username. This meant that user names were not working in PDMS or BlackBoard. eLearning courses were also a problem because of the linkage between the systems. Updates have been performed and it appears that as of 10/12/11 that this was now working.
- Question - In BlackBoard, can you save the PowerPoint? The PowerPoint is actually a pdf when you view it in BlackBoard. The suggestion is that instead of opening the link, right click and choose SAVE instead of OPEN.
- IMS - the problem is that there is no communication coming from DDOE. This occurred with the teachers that had Jr. in their names and also with a day that the IMS system was down for the day. There was also a problem with IMS and DCAS. The LEAs would like better communication coming from someone so that they know what is happening.
- Live@EDU - update from Microsoft is that discussions are progressing and further discussions are to take place sometime this week. Microsoft believes that they have successfully addressed most of the State concerns. They will know more after the phone call. They hope to have the contact signed within the next few weeks. DTI hopes to be able to do some rollovers during the winter break.
- YouTube Safe Search - info has not been sent to the Superintendents yet. Wayne will try and get it out to them next week. You can test this at home by scrolling down to the bottom of the YouTube home page and checking the box that indicates safe search.

DTI

- IP readdressing - schools will recieve reduced numbers of IP addresses. Some schools will need to manage a great deal; some will require only small numbers of addresses. Most changes should be able to take place during the school day and no one would "feel" it.
- Question - one district said that they have "run out" of IP addresses on their regular network and are having to put school devices on their guest network. Eric explained that they could not be running out of addresses but it could be the way they were allocated or the parameters that are being assigned by DHCP.
- Russ Grant - Randy is again willing to work with districts/buildings on Russ Grants that are typically awarded to rural schools and they usually address video conferencing. Grant submission is in Feb/Mar timeframe but much planning is required and that planning should start now.

Denise Tuck
Thinkfinity |
- Denise shared a list of schools that do not have a field trainer. If you remember, our grant goal was to have a Thinkfinity trainer in each school. The grant ends in December and we'd like to do everything we can to meet this goal. Please contact Denise if you would like to know the status of your school or district. There are two trainer training sessions coming up: October 19 and November 7. Visit the DCET Thinkfinity site for more information.
- The Thinkfinity Community is a new resource that provide a social network for educators. If you join the Community you can have access to their new speaker series which has recorded interviews with people such as Sandra Day O'Connor. Future speakers include Dr. Ben Carson and Magic Johnson. Interviews are released on certain dates and are available thereafter. Visit Thinkfinity for the slate of speakers and the release dates.
- Project Based Learning Training (November 28) - Thinkfinity funds are sponsoring a trainer from the Buck Institute (http://www.bie.org/). If you are planning on attending, please register through PDMS. Also, please notify Denise if you would like a book for elementary (K-5) or middle/high school.

For the Good of the Cause |
November will be a full-day meeting. The meeting will be in the morning, we have a vendor lunch, and in the afternoon we will explore the iSAFE curriculum. The iSAFE exploration is being done to provide scaffolding for the full day of iSAFE training that is being held on December 15. |
