Educators are more mobile than ever. Being able to have data, documents, and resources at your fingertips no matter where you are, is becoming the norm, yet it is still challenging to lug a full laptop around everywhere you go. iPads have emerged to be the perfect tool to serve as a fully-functioning computer, yet provide a form factor that is very portable and easy to handle on the go.
This workshop will help users create a digital backpack with their iPads. We will go through the ins and outs of the device, get settings customized to participants' individual needs, and synchronize the iPad with multiple sources of data including calendars, email, documents, websites, etc. Each attendee will leave with their iPad chock full of useful apps, and structured as a powerhouse mobile office!

NOTE: Session is designed for district and building administrators and INTEGRATE members. *Participants should come with an iPad that has already been synched with an established iTunes account. Several apps will be downloaded throughout the course of the day.

Spending dwindling dollars to fund digital tools and resources for Delaware classrooms has often fueled the question, "What impact does technology use have on student achievement?" Though most are familiar with conventional best practices and their association with improved academic progress, few  are aware of an expanding body of research linking effective technology use with student performance on high stakes tests such as the DSTP.

Digital Age Best Practices refer to an established set of instructional strategies that have demonstrated a statistically-significant impact on student achievement and are aligned with 21st Century Skills and Themes. The Digital Age Best Practices include:

  • Promoting Shared Expertise with Networked Collaboration
  • Bolstering Purposeful Inquiry through Student Questions
  • Personalizing and Globalizing Content by Making Authentic Connections
  • Accelerating Individual Growth through Vertical/Horizontal Differentiation
  • Anchoring Student Learning with Digital Age Tools and Resources
  • Clarifying Student Understanding with Formative Assessments

This workshop focuses on how your district or school can leverage these digital age best practices on your campus to turn up the H.E.A.T. (Higher order thinking, Engaged learning, Authentic connections, Technology use) on student learning and academic progress. Participants will critique the use of the Digital Age Best Practices in different K-12 classroom settings, conduct classroom walkthroughs based on the tenets of H.E.A.T., and generate a set of S.M.A.R.T. Goals surrounding the use of best practices on their respective campuses.

All participants will be given access to an online resource site in which to download sample Gold-Seal lesson plans, benchmark assessments and interventions, scoring guides, and walkthrough forms as well as a year's subscription to the Classroom Walkthroughs with H.E.A.T. web application for their iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch to turn up the H.E.A.T. on their campus.
